Don't make space for negative "what ifs."

Because it would want to take a seat.

A couple of days ago, I visited a friend’s place. She recently bought a new house and bought a lot of stuff to organize her little home, including medicines and other necessities. What I noticed and alarmingly moved me is that she bought medications for the illness she doesn’t have yet. And a “throwing up bucket” to keep under the sink in sight. When I asked her why, she responded with “you never know.”

If we never know, why must we pretend to know?

The moment you leave a chair for the negative things that aren’t even around you, the chair will fill itself with the same energy, no matter how much you try to prevent it, because you unknowingly invited a kind of energy you don’t want. It’s the same concept of praying for patience. The more you pray to have patience, the more you end up in situations that require more patience.

My friend I mentioned earlier could have gotten a plant, a new book, a new object for a hobby she never had before, but instead, she wanted to stay cautious about a disease she doesn’t have. The existence of that medication will constantly remind her about the illness, and she will have thoughts about it. The thoughts will fill the chair she left, and it’s going to affect her slowly.

This is the exact kind of energy we must try not to invite at all.

For years, I’ve kept my prescribed medications with me, even after getting better. Why? Because it gave me a sense of assurance that if I get sick again, I can have it. But that exact thought never let me get better in the first place. I kept leaving the empty space solely for my sickness to come back. As a result, it did. And I normalized feeling safe with it until I realized how much time it’s costing me to recover.

The point is, if you keep a throwing-up bucket in sight, you will find yourself throwing up in it sooner or later, no matter how much you try to prevent it. This action seems subtle, but it has the strongest effect on everything around us. This is the micro negativity.

How to fix this?

Like everything else, fixing this is going to take time as well. But the faster you can wrap your head around it, the faster you can fix it. The slow and subtle positive shift is important here. Instead of leaving space for negative things that haven’t happened yet, leave space for the positive things that haven’t happened yet. After all, we’re thinking about an unseen future, so why must it always be negative?

Remove the elements away that make space for draining “what ifs".” Remove the things away from your sight that spark overthinking and anxiousness. Half of your discomfort will reduce right there.

You are only as strong as your power to control your mind.

My stories are here to make you feel seen and read well. No one is ever alone to suffer all by themselves; that’s what makes growth and healing so hopeful, because when you start walking towards betterment, you will see a bunch of people joining you on the road.

Hope you had a good read!
