How to outgrow things when they are a part of yourself.

 A little journey within yourself.

Remember the little emotional support possession you had when you were five? Do you think about it? Does it seem to you that it has outgrown you? The physical existence might be gone, but the thought about that possession does pop up in your mind every now and then, right?

That’s my whole point about how to outgrow things when they are a part of you is, you don't. You let them visit until they settle in with you.

You are growing in your body, and so are many experiences. There are a number of experiences that are going to turn out unpleasant. And that’s alright because at the end of the day, the things that don’t matter to you will eventually leave the radius of your mind. That leaves us with the things that matter to us, no matter how harsh it is.

Some of those harsh things only matter to us because we refuse to let go of a version of ourselves where we are pretty unpleasant to ourselves. We don’t have the strength to admit that one of our traits is not so nice. Sometimes we refuse to let go because it makes us justify our wrongs, and we don’t really feel great about it.

The cure to this is that you have to acknowledge your bugs and fix them, so one day, when you think about those childhood possessions with love and adoration, you’ll also remember the way you fixed yourself into a better person. You will become a happy memory that passes by instead of feeling like a lump of regret.

The concept of outgrowing things on purpose seems too hard to execute. It feels like maybe you’ll never outgrow these, but it’s important to remember that you are growing too, and constant growth is making you bigger than the problems that looked so huge before. You grow bigger so you can look down on your issues, hold them in your hands, and resolve. That’s the gift of growing. Holding onto things too hard won’t let you grow, and the issue will keep being something huge to look at.

You won’t be lost as long as you allow yourself to grow bigger. Because the bigger your mind gets, the more you can build yourself rooms that bring you peace.
